Adored by some, shunned by others, the painter has not had an exhibition in France for thirty years. However, he is the subject of a retrospective in India, so you have to go to New Delhi to see Gérard Garouste or come to the Cercle Montherlant on 16 March 2020! A unique moment where the painter-sculptor will exchange in all intimacy on the course of « his way ».

At the age of 73, the man who revealed the weight of his family history and psychiatric problems in his moving tale L’Intranquille is the artist honoured in a masterful retrospective, under the patronage of the Ministry of Culture and the French Institute. Both have worked « to respond to President Emmanuel Macron’s desire to develop cultural relations between our two countries by supporting this exhibition, which is a first », emphasised Minister Franck Riester at the opening on 28 January. Even thousands of miles away, it is for Garouste, who founded the association La Source and was elected in 2017 to the Academy of Fine Arts, a long-awaited museum recognition, hand in hand, with his most loyal support, the art dealer Daniel Templon, who defines himself as « the fighter of a painting that France refuses to show ».
